(Sunday Message for Nov. 26, 2017)
Pay Attention/Use Your Nerves. Guard Your Heart.
【Scripture】 Proverbs 4:23-27, 5:1-6
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you.
Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm.
My son, pay attention to my wisdom, listen well to my words of insight,
that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge.
For the lips of an adulteress drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil;
but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword.
Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave.
She gives no thought to the way of life; her paths are crooked, but she knows it not.
Hallelujah! May the blessing of the eternal love of God, peace of the Holy Son,
fiery love of the Holy Spirit, and the inspiration, movement, and working of the Word fill you fully.
Today I will speak about ‘nerves.’
In the course of living life, there are reasons why people make mistakes,
why problems occur, why people get into accidents, why they die,
why people suffer a loss because they fail to do what they need to do,
why they fail to speak or live their everyday lives properly,
why people cause harm to God, the Holy Spirit, the Lord, and brothers, or are ill-mannered towards them.
The Holy Spirit said,
“It is because [you] take action without paying attention.
It is because [you] forget [about things] since [you] don’t pay attention. You need to always pay attention.”
The most sensitive part among all of the human body parts is ‘nerves.’
The brain has nerves that are clumped together in the size of a fist.
In essence, the brain is ‘a mass of nerves.’
Depending on what direction you use your nerves towards,
thoughts pertaining to [that direction] are generated.
Those thoughts are transmitted to the nerves of your entire body and you take action on them.
In essence, ‘thoughts’ are generated due to ‘the nerves,’ [which lead you to] take action.
Just as you cannot do anything all day long if you leave your body alone,
you cannot even do one thing if you don’t use your nerves and leave them alone.
‘Nerves’ are sharp like the edge of a knife.
However, if you leave them alone, they are dull like the back of a knife.
Just as knives and tools will shine only if you use them, nerves will also shine only if you use them.
However, you need to use your nerves well.
If you use your nerves in ways that [will make you] worried, concerned, nervous, and insecure,
then ‘a disease’ will develop.
If you keep paying attention to how you were treated unfairly,
and how you were hurt by the words and actions of your brothers,
then you will develop hypernoia, phobia, and depression.
When that happens, you need to pay attention to the work that you have to do,
pay attention to God, the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Son Lord, pay attention to more productive things,
and turn your nerves and thoughts towards another direction.
Just as you need to use your body well, you have to know about nerves and use them well, too.
‘The cranial nerves’ are the essence of the body.
The cranial nerves are the very first nerves to feel and know [things] in the body.
Nerves see through the eyes, hear through the ears, and activate thoughts through the brain.
The whole body is overlaid with nerves so [you] can feel through the nerves.
That is why those who don’t use their nerves/pay attention
cannot feel and do not know [things] even if they see and hear [them].
If you make your nerves sharp and focus your mind,
you can feel through ‘your brain’ even things that are far away.
Those things will be transmitted to your ‘heart and thoughts.’
You have to pay attention/use your nerves in order to feel.
[Then], what you have paid attention to will be transmitted through your [thoughts],
and you will act upon those thoughts with your body.
Therefore, the phrase pay attention/use your nerves
connects with the phrase “Use your mind. Use your thoughts,”
and it connects with “Use your body. Exert your strength. Take action.
Put [the Word] to practice.”
In other words, it means, “With your ‘nerves’ which are the most advanced
among all of the body parts of a person, fight, take action, and challenge [yourself].”
People feel and remember things through their ‘nerves.’
Through the nerves, people feel joy, excitement, good things, bad things, goodness, and evil.
For those who say, “We don’t feel through the nerves. We feel through the heart and the thoughts,”
imagine that ‘your cranial nerves’ are taken out. You won’t be able to feel anything.
‘The heart, mind, and thoughts’ are all contained in the nerves. They are connected to ‘the soul.’
Therefore, the world of the spirit, and the world of the soul are determined by ‘the mass of cranial nerves.’
It is the same for spirits.
Like the brain, you can consider the [entire] body of the spirit as a mass of nerves.
Therefore, spirits can feel well, and have divine powers.
People’s nerves are like ‘a transmitter-receiver.’
‘The heart, mind, and thoughts’ are contained in the nerves
so that you will think according to the direction you pay attention to,
you will act with your ‘body’ according to those thoughts,
those thoughts will connect with ‘the soul,’
your thoughts and actions will connect with ‘the spirit.’
You have to use ‘the nerves’,
which are the ultimate transmitter-receiver of a human being, really well.
You have to awaken your nerves.
You have to keep seeing, hearing, learning, and thinking about what you need to pay attention to.
If nerves are awake, then ‘a hunch, an intuition, an inspiration,’ etc.,
will be transmitted to your thoughts often, and they will come to your mind.
If nerves are asleep, nothing special will come to your mind even if a day goes by.
Cameras can record only according to what is seen [through the lens] and according to the [camera’s] angle.
The same is true with nerves.
That is why you can you see, hear, and think only according to what you pay attention to.
Just like drawing for the very first time,
if people do something they haven’t done before for the very first time,
they can’t do a lot of whatever it is, nor can they do it properly.
If you do things multiple times with extra care,
you will gain [new] methods, skills, and confidence,
so you will gradually become better at them.
You should also continuously lead your life of faith as you pay attention to it.
Then it will be noticeably different, and your destiny will change.
I hope that you will focus your nerves, thoughts, and mind to manage time and yourself,
and take action with focus as you follow the guidance of God, the Holy Spirit, and the Lord.
Only then will your life be meaningful, hopeful, rewarding, and awesome.
